Linq Card - NFC Contactless Business Card Review
When I started my consulting business, I initially looked into traditional paper business cards. I was immediately presented with the question, “how and where am I going to keep these things on me and at all times?”. As I lead more of a minimalist type lifestyle, I don’t even carry a wallet, I knew there had to be a better way. That’s when I discovered, Linq Card. Linc is a plastic business card that contains an NFC (Near field communication. Think Apple or Samsung Pay. Same technology.) chip that directs a browser to your profile on the Linq website. From there, a user can easily save your contact information to their phone. More on that below.
I bought the Linq Card about a month ago and have been happy with it. I can honestly say that it has already helped me get more business. How? It’s the nature of my profession that I mostly deal with people that are not tech savvy. When I strike up a conversation with a potential client and we exchange contact information, most have never seen an NFC contact card before and are impressed with it’s ease of use. I even had one client say after seeing how it worked, “Wow, maybe we DO need to work with you!”.
How does the Linq Card work exactly (Android Example)?
Step1: Place the Linq card near an unlocked cell phone.
Place the Linc Card near an unlocked cell phone, it will prompt the user with the screen below:
Step 2: Press the Open link button on the screen above.
After opening the link, you will be presented with the profile page connected to the Linq Card. Press “Save Contact”.
Step 3: Press “Open”
After pressing “Save Contact”, you will be presented with a pop-up saying that the contact card has been downloaded. You will need to press “Open”, as seen in the screenshot below, to open the downloaded contact card.
Step 4: Select which account to import the contact to.
You may only have one account to choose from. If you have more than one, just make sure you select the account you would like the contact information to be saved.
Step: 5 (Optional) Find the contact after it has been downloaded.
Something I did when setting up my business, was to intentionally use the word “Computer” in my business name. That not only describes what type of consulting I do very clearly, but in this case, it allows the user to search for the word “Computer” in their contacts and my contact card will show up. This way, many months from now, when the client is in need of tech help, they may not remember my name, but because I showed them they can just type “computer” and I will show up, they should have no problem finding me.
Conclusion
I find the Linq card to be a valuable piece of technology for anyone that is in the business of networking with people.
